Megan's Visit

Megan and I started work bright and early Saturday morning with Guido in the vineyards! We scoured each row for oversized trunks of old, dead vines that the mulcher would not be able to handle, and brought them to the road. We also gathered the olive branches that had been pruned into piles for mulching.

We worked in two vineyards, and by the end had a good system going! It was hot and sweaty work, but I was overjoyed to have Megan there with me, and we talked the nearly the whole time. We then loaded the old vines into the truck to haul home, and somehow managed to get them all in!
We went home for lunch with the family, and then went out again, this time to the olive grove to rake the pruned branches once again. There were a lot of branches, and we didn’t get anywhere near finished, but worked hard at it anyway. Guido came to get us then, as we were having company for dinner that night; in addition to us two wwoofers, a couple and their children that are friends of Guido and Debra. A bella evening; beautiful friends, beautiful food, beautiful place.
Sunday morning we helped with weeding in the garden. It was fun, because we were able to talk and laugh while pulling weeds. There were lots of interesting bugs, and tons of spiders. I was telling Megan though, I have a rule: I don’t scream unless the spider is bigger than a dime. But if it crawls on me, all bets are off. :) So we were really doing great, weeding up a little storm, both thinking of our mamas, no screaming or squealing or anything. Until the centipedes. Megan found one first, and only yelled a little, but as I started really yelling, she started yelling more. Eventually we had enough sense to scoot it onto a shovel and flick it far, far away (Megan did this part, she is so brave, my hero!). Things just shouldn’t have that many legs. I found one later that was sleeping, thankfully, and then it moved itself away.
